Our Founder
Banke Awopetu
Our lead consultant and creative director, Banke Awopetu, has been engaging urban audiences for nearly three decades. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre and African/African-American Studies from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Urban Education from Roberts Wesleyan.
Awopetu’s robust and eclectic experience equips her to disarm participants and lead them to higher levels of effectiveness.
Awopetu shepherded a restorative code of conduct through unanimous board approval and district adoption and provided curriculum direction for the Foodbank of New York City’s masterclass series for nonprofits.
She has been a keynote speaker for the Urban League’s Black Scholar ceremony, online correspondent for The Source magazine, panel speaker for the United Negro College Fund’s “Girl Talk: The Successful College Woman”, table facilitator for Hope Global Forum, moderator of the SAID institute’s Global Village Series, facilitator of the Educate and Elevate panel of The Source 360 conference, host of Becoming Michelle Obama book discussion at the Houston African American library.
Her novels Always Want More and New Black, theatrical works, poetry, and standup comedy have garnered commercial and critical success including the 2021 Idea Fund grant funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation. Awopetu was a NPR “Moth” Story slam champion and one of 20 comics selected to perform in a showcase and audition for Bob Sumner (creator of Def Comedy Jam).
